The U.S. Air Force on Thursday released video from a Saturday bombing run that took out Islamic State financial targets.
“On Feb. 13, we targeted and destroyed five financial targets in the heart of Mosul,” said Air Force Lt. Gen. Charles Q. Brown, commander of U.S. Air Force Central Command, in a remove call from Qatar.
“This is a strike that the U.S. Air Force used … that took out these finance targets in less than five minutes, using precision guided munitions to minimize collateral damage and the risk to civilians,” he added.
The Obama administration has stepped up its efforts to target the terrorist group’s financial infrastructure in order to cripple its ability to function.
Brown also addressed Russia’s claim that it was not responsible for bombing hospitals in Syria. When asked if Russia could be right, Brown said he doubted it.
“There’s only two people that are flying in the area, the Russians and the Syrians, because we don’t fly there,” he said. “If I had to put money on it, because the Russians are flying much more than the Syrians, it’s probably the Russians, but I don’t have … direct intel to tell me it was the Russians.”
“But I can guarantee you it wasn’t the coalition,” he added.
