Afternoon Links: NASA Goes to the Sun, Nominating Lewis Black, and No Smoking!

Rest in Peace. Wrestling great Nikolai Volkoff passed away. JVL suggests reading this item over at Deadspin on his well-lived American dream.

We got one! You may remember Tony Mecia’s cover story on the scourge of telemarketers a while back. (If not, go read it!) One of the folks he spoke with ran an anti-telemarketing firm called Jolly Roger. It uses AI to waste the time of the telemarketer on the other end. I’ve had lots of singles, where a telemarketer will waste 30 seconds. But I got one of the Microsoft IT scam guys to waste four minutes of his time. Enjoy.

History has a strange way of repeating itself. Do read this interesting thread from Joshua A. Tait about how conservatives disagreed back during the Nixon era.

No smoking! A nationwide smoking ban in public housing took effect today. Certainly, there will be no unintended consequences here.

Icarus! NASA is planning to send a probe to the sun. Hope it doesn’t fly too close!

Can we make this happen? Washington’s much-hated public transportation should make Lewis Black the voice of the system. Here’s a preview.
