Former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, who endorsed Gov. John Kasich Monday, predicted a victory in Ohio for his candidate despite polling that shows him trailing Donald Trump.
“Ohioans know who cut their taxes,” Ridge said Tuesday during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“On election day, John will prevail in Ohio,” he said.
Ridge, who served as governor of Pennsylvania, supported Jeb Bush in the Republican primary before he exited the race after a disappointing finish in the South Carolina Saturday.
Ridge said he threw his support behind Kasich instead of Sen. Marco Rubio, who has absorbed many former Bush supporters, because he thinks governors are better qualified to be president than senators.
“I think, frankly, record trumps rhetoric,” Ridge said. “Compared to what governors have to do in order to achieve … there’s no doubt in my mind that being a governor is far, far better preparation.”
