Donald Trump knows where Hillary Clinton disappeared to during a segment of the Democratic debate, but doesn’t want to talk about it because he thinks it’s “disgusting.”
After a brief commercial break during Saturday’s debate, Clinton was late making it back to the stage after making a trip to the bathroom.
“What happened to her? I’m watching the debate and she disappeared. Where did she go? … I thought she quit. I thought she gave up,” said the Republican front-runner at a rally Monday evening in Grand Rapids, Mich. “They had to start the debate without her, phase two.”
Responding to audience members presumably yelling the answer to his question, Trump said, “What? I know where she went. It’s disgusting, I don’t want to talk about it.” Cheers followed.
“No, it’s too disgusting,” he added. “Don’t say it, it’s disgusting, let’s not talk — we want to be very, very straight up, okay? But I thought — wasn’t that a weird deal? We’re ready to start and we’re looking — they gave her every benefit of the doubt, because you know it’s ABC, and she practically owns ABC.”
Clinton’s absence was palpable following a short commercial break during the third Democratic debate in New Hampshire, as the moderators asked questions to her rival Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Gov. Martin O’Malley, while Clinton’s podium remained empty.
Within moments, she returned to the stage and said “sorry” as she resumed her position behind the podium.
The New York Times later reported that the distance from the stage to the women’s bathroom was significantly longer than that for the men’s bathroom, and that Clinton’s campaign vice chairwoman Huma Abedin had expressed concern to debate organizers before the event about the long trek.
