Poll: Clinton would lose to Trump, beat Fiorina

Donald Trump would just barely edge out Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton in a general election match-up today, according to a new survey by Rasmussen Reports.

The latest poll of 1,000 likely voters shows Trump beating Clinton 38-36 percent in a head-to-head matchup with 22 percent respondents indicating they’d prefer to see other candidates make it to the general election. Five percent of survey respondents remain undecided.

Democrats, however, appear slightly more enthusiastic about the possibility of voting for their party’s current front-runner than Republicans do about voting for Trump. While Trump earned 65 percent of Republicans’ support in the hypothetical matchup, Clinton drew 70 percent support from voters in her party.

Meanwhile, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina would fall short of beating Clinton if the two female candidates went up against each other in a general election today. According to the same survey, Clinton would beat the GOP hopeful 40-34 percent in a toe-to-toe challenge.

A separate CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday showed Fiorina dropping from second place to seventh, where she earns just 4 percent support among Republican voters.

The latest Rasmussen survey of likely voters was conducted between Oct. 18-19 and contains a margin of error of 3 percent.
