Beck’s ‘midnight ride’

Conservative commentator Glenn Beck is taking his breakup with Fox News pretty heartily, even comparing himself to Paul Revere, whose “midnight ride” from Boston to Lexington kicked off the Revolutionary War.

“Paul Revere did not get up on the horse and say, ‘I’m going to do this for the rest of my life.’ He didn’t do it. He got off the horse at some point and fought in the Revolution, and then he went back to silversmithing,” said Glenn Beck during his closing remarks on Wednesday’s show, explaining that he’d never thought of his daily 5 p.m. gig at Fox as a permanent career path, but also adding that he’d stay with the network to contribute content.

Beck’s cancellation, speculated as the result of losing a host of sponsors, and might have been due to his 32 percent ratings drop within the last year. Beck’s departure has predictably set the media world a-buzz, with Piers Morgan and Keith Olbermann speculating over his next moves. And of course John Stewart is cracking some pretty funny jokes in the meantime.

But it does beg the question: What’s next for Beck?
