Obama dumps on Trump

President Obama reiterated his assertion that the Republican Party itself is responsible for the rise of Donald Trump and the pitched anti-establishment sentiment rampant among GOP voters.

Party elders say: “We’re shocked someone is fanning anti-immigrant or anti-Muslim sentiment! …We’re shocked! We’re shocked that someone could be loose with the facts or distort someone’s record. Shocked!” Obama mocked during a speech at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Austin, Texas on Friday evening.

“How could you be shocked?” he asked, according to a pool report. “This was the guy who was sure I was born in Kenya and wasn’t letting go,” he said, referring to how the Republican Party did nothing to reign in citizen Trump when he fanned the “birther” flames during the 2008 presidential race.

“As long as it was being directed at me they were fine with it,” he told 1,600 Texas Democrats who donated up to $33,400 to hear him at Austin Music Hall. “It was a hoot … and suddenly they’re shocked ‘that gambling’s going on in this establishment,” he said, quoting one of the many famous lines from the classic movie Casablanca.

Obama first made the case Thursday during a White House press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Trump is “a distillation of what has been going on in their party for more than a decade,” he charged again.

Obama told supporters to look back at the claims Republicans have made about him, the issues and Democrats over the years. Given their rhetoric, “they can’t be surprised when somebody says, ‘I can make up stuff better than that.'”

Obama advised the GOP to take responsibility for the primary voter backlash and Trump’s wild remarks “then make an adjustment,” Obama insisted.

“We need to conduct ourselves will civility and principle,” he said before attendees were treated to a performance by rapper J Cole.

The reception was hosted by Chaotic Moon Studio co-founder William Hurley.

Shortly after Obama lambasted Trump, news broke that the GOP primary front-runner had to cancel a planned rally in Chicago for security reasons.
