Ummm, what?: Bill Maher defends monkeys from NASA experiment

Celebrities always seem to have their pet causes, and, well, Bill Maher’s seems to be monkeys.

The comedian and host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” is writing to NASA Administrator Charles F. Bolden Jr. to ask the federal agency to not blast squirrel monkeys with radiation. The experiment would help determine how humans would endure spending long amounts of time in space.

“Please don’t do this,” Maher started the letter. He then made the case for the “tiny but intelligent primates who live in large colonies with strong social structures.”

Maher is representing the monkeys on behalf of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a group that receives a large amount of funding from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
