Carson: Clinton would put the U.S. in a ‘vegetative state’

Americans would be in a “vegetative state” under a Hillary Clinton presidency, Ben Carson charged Tuesday night in his speech at the GOP convention.

“One of the most dangerous narratives being advanced by some in our own party is the notion that however dreadful a Hillary Clinton administration may be, the effects will be temporary or harmless … that we can hold our collective breath for four more years,” Carson said.

“If we try that, we will be condemning the American patient to a vegetative state, dependent on government life support, with no quality of life,” he said.

Carson used most of his speech to slam Clinton’s policies and her controversial use of personal email and handling of the attack in Benghazi. A former neurosurgeon, he invoked several medical references as he told attendees not to vote for her.

Carson said, for example, that Clinton’s Supreme Court appointees would set her “cancerous policies in stone.”

“The American patient is gasping for air … this chaos is by design,” Carson said, adding that Clinton’s “new world order” puts the government in control of people’s lives.

“Donald Trump understands this very well,” he added.

Carson, who ran against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump during the primary, had more words of praise for Trump than some of the evening’s other speakers, who focused more on opposing Clinton than on extolling the controversial billionaire. Carson called Trump “the extraordinary businessman, the devoted father and the right leader for our time.”
