Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said that business mogul Donald Trump is using divisive rhetoric that reminds him of President Obama.
“Language that divides us — this reminds me of Barack Obama, not as a candidate but Barack Obama as president,” Bush said Friday during an appearance on Fox News.
“All he does is push people who don’t agree with him down to make his side look better and the divide makes it hard to solve problems,” Bush continued. “I don’t think we’re going to win that way.”
Many people are concerned that their lives and economic situations aren’t improving but the GOP needs to avoid rhetoric that is “really, really divisive that preys on peoples’ legitimate angst” about their situations, Bush said.
As to whether he will back the eventual primary winner, Bush said he would.
“I’m going to support the Republican nominee, but it’s going to be me,” he said, adding that he is the candidate who can win and has the leadership experience to fix the nation’s problems.
Bush said he trusts the GOP’s the primary voters to choose their candidate and that he “is confident” he will emerge victorious.
