Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio laid into President Obama on Tuesday for vowing to impose new gun control measures through executive order.
“It undermines the Second Amendment and it will do nothing to keep people safe,” Rubio told Fox News Channel’s Bill Hemmer. “Barack Obama is obsessed with undermining the Second Amendment — an important protection our Constitution recognizes and defends for us, and he’s looking for any way possible to undermine it. He’s been doing this forever.”
The Florida senator also told the host that Obama’s impending actions will only make it harder for “law-abiding citizens” to bear arms.
“It’s part of a broader narrative, and that is that this president is obsessed with undermining the Constitution in general, but the Second Amendment in particular,” Rubio said. “He is obsessed with undermining it, and it will do nothing — not this executive order or even the things he stands for related to this issue will do nothing to prevent gun violence or gun crimes because criminals don’t follow the law.”
Rubio made the remarks before taking the stage in Cedar Rapids for his first of three events of the day in Iowa.
