Former congressman John Dingell is in the hospital for heart-related issues.
The 89-year-old former Democratic representative from Michigan was first admitted to admitted to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit on Monday for evaluation and a heart-related procedure.
Wednesday afternoon it was revealed that Dingell would be staying at the hospital for a few more days to undergo a second heart procedure. Doctors determined it was not a silent heart attack and plan to implant a new device.
“He is feisty,” said his wife Congresswoman Debbie Dingell. “Both of us deeply appreciate the prayers and good wishes. They mean a lot.”
Dingell left Congress in January of 2015 after serving 30 terms. He served the longest congressional tenure in the history of the United States. His wife Debbie Dingell won the 2014 election to replace him, becoming the first non-widowed woman to immediately take over for a spouse’s seat in Congress.
