Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said his presidential campaign understands the nominating process better than Donald Trump’s team, which puts him in prime position to emerge victorious.
In an interview with 1130 WISN in Wisconsin, Cruz said the Trump team’s lack of comprehension about the delegate process will ensure that, “if he can’t break 1,237 [delegates needed to win] before Cleveland, his numbers are going to go steadily steadily down.”
“They don’t have any infrastructure. They don’t have any grassroots. They have no idea how the basic process works,” Cruz said. “We’re beating them on Election Day. Then we’re also beating them in every state there’s usually a subsequent process for electing the delegates and we’re beating Donald in state after state after state in electing the delegates.”
Cruz gained approximately 18 delegates in North Dakota last weekend following an in-person pitch to state Republicans, and has out-hustled Trump in Arizona to put his delegates in prime position according to the Examiner‘s David Drucker.
The Texas senator told 1130 WISN he knows that the Trump team will cry foul when Cruz uses his knowledge of the rules to his advantage, but intends to maintain his focus anyway.
“Anytime they lose an election they scream, ‘the election’s been stolen from us’—it’s just silliness,” Cruz said. “And my focus is not going to be to engage in that, but rather to keep doing what we’re doing, which is working hard to try to earn the votes of the men and women of Wisconsin.”
