Navy Super Hornet crashes in Arabian Gulf

A U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet from Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia crashed shortly after launching from the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt operating in the Arabian Gulf.

The two crew members aboard the fighter ejected from the aircraft, survived and were recovered by search and rescue personnel from the ship. Initial reports indicate both crew members are OK with only minor injuries.

The crash was not a result of hostile activity.

Strike Fighter Squadron 211 is based at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach and is assigned to Carrier Air Wing 1. The USS Theodore Roosevelt is currently in the 5th Fleet supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, conducting strike operations against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
