A Wisconsin man who threatened to kill President Obama in 2015 was sentenced Friday to three years in prison and three additional years of supervised release on the felony charge.
U.S. District Judge William Conley condemned Brian Dutcher, 55, to prison time as well as a comprehensive mental health evaluation, according to court records.
Dutcher, a resident of central Wisconsin town Tomah, told a library security guard on July 1, 2015 he planned to fatally shoot the president during a scheduled visit to the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse the following day.
The guard informed authorities and Dutcher was arrested. Investigators later found a Facebook post Dutcher had posted that read: “That’s it! Thursday I will be in La Crosse. Hopefully I will get a clear shot at the pretend president. Killing him is our CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY!”
