Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey has endorsed John Kasich for president.
Armey said he was excited to endorse the Ohio governor in a video released by the campaign and noted that Kasich “is a guy who’s always governed by his concern for the country.”
“I’ve known and worked with John Kasich for 30 years and have always respected him for being motivated solely by his concern for our country,” Armey said in a statement released by Kasich’s campaign. “He’s a leader who gets things done, works well with others and brings people together, stays focused on the needs of the country and is never distracted by some personal political ambition.”
Armey joins several other prominent septuagenarian Republicans who have endorsed Kasich, including former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, a national co-chair of the governor’s campaign, former New York Sen. Alfonse D’Amato, and Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley.
Kasich, who ranks seventh in the Washington Examiner‘s most recent power rankings, appeared ecstatic to receive Armey’s support.
“Dick was a great Leader and partner and helped us clear so many hurdles by simply standing strong and calling it like it was,” Kasich said in a statement. “His support means so much to me because he’s someone I respect for his integrity and his intellect. I’m grateful to have him on our team and am excited about what we’re going to be able get done together.”
