Sen. Marco Rubio snagged the endorsements of two key GOP congressmen Friday, capping a week filled with GOP endorsements after a strong debate performance last Thursday
Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo and South Dakota Rep. Kristi Noem both announced their support for Rubio Friday, just four days before the Florida senator is set to take the debate stage alongside seven other Republicans in the main event Tuesday in Milwaukee, Wis.
“Marco Rubio represents the kind of next-generation conservative leader that puts our party in the best position to win back the White House next year,” Noem said in a statement.
“Marco stands out from his competitors in his ability to articulate a conservative vision for what kind of country we can become in this new American century,” Noem said. “I’m proud to endorse Marco Rubio for President and I look forward to helping him win.”
Pompeo, a U.S. Army veteran, said that Rubio’s chops on foreign policy make him the right person to lead the country going forward.
“I have looked at the field, and have now concluded that the best man to lead Americans forward in this new American century is Marco Rubio,” Pompeo told Fox News’ Gretchen Carlson. “I know him. I know that he can undo the disastrous foreign policy this president has led us down. He understands the American dream. He’s lived it, he’s had the opportunity for America to benefit him, and I look forward to working shoulder-to-shoulder with him to taking us forward for the next four years.
The Kansas congressman went on to dismiss recent attacks against Rubio’s finances, which Donald Trump has seized on.
The two high-profile House endorsements come at the end of a week which saw Sens. Cory Gardner, Steve Daines and Jim Risch all announce their endorsement of their Senate colleague.
Heading into the fourth debate, Rubio sits third behind Ben Carson and Donald Trump nationally, as well as in Iowa and New Hampshire. He also tops the Washington Examiner‘s latest power rankings.
