Australia is hosting the G-20 summit in the coastal city of Brisbane.
The G-20 always makes news, but some of the most interesting events are happening on the margins of the summit.
On Saturday, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper rebuffed Vladimir Putin over the Russian leader’s meddling in Ukraine. “I guess I’ll shake your hand,” Harper said, “but I have only one thing to say to you: You need to get out of Ukraine.”
President Obama also spoke Saturday, telling a crowd of Australian students that the U.S. is committed to combating climate change, defending liberal democracy in Asia, working peacefully with China and building broad prosperity in the region.
There was a “koala session” before things got serious, with leaders such as Putin, Obama and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott photographed holding the legendary Australian animals.
