Chef Art Smith’s creation is Lady Gaga’s cake

It was originally his fried chicken that brought Chef Art Smith and Lady Gaga together. But his latest culinary experience with the singer really takes the cake.

Smith, Oprah‘s former chef who owns the popular Art & Soul restaurant in D.C., celebrated Gaga’s 25th birthday with the pop star at the Los Angeles nightclub La Cita Sunday evening. Pastry chef Serafina Magnussen used Smith’s recipe to create a four-tier hummingbird birthday cake for Gaga, which was decorated with purple orchids and red roses by Smith’s husband Jesus Salgueiro (the pair married in D.C. last August). Magnussen is the baker for Smith’s new Chicago restaurant, Lyfe Kitchen.

The cake, topped with sparkling candles, was presented to Gaga with a parading mariachi band and with friends singing “Happy Birthday Gaga.”
