Saudi Arabia ends airstrikes in Yemen

A monthlong Saudi-led airstrike campaign in Yemen will come to an end Tuesday.

The “Operation Decisive Storm” coalition, led by Saudi Arabia against Houthi rebels in Yemen, will conclude by the end of Tuesday, Saudi-state run television reported. A new campaign, “Operation Restoring Hope” will soon begin, focusing on a political solution to the situation in the area.

Saudi Arabia launched the airstrikes this month, hoping to destroy the Iranian-allied rebel group that overthrew the Yemeni government in January — a top U.S. ally in the fight against al Qaeda.

According to Saudi coalition spokesman Brigadier General Ahmed al-Asiri, the campaign is ending because rebels no longer pose a threat to civilians.
