Sotomayor: Americans should be more concerned by drones

A Supreme Court liberal said Americans should be more frightened by the capabilities of government and corporations to invade their privacy.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor said technological advances like flying drones put us “in that brave new world, and we are capable of being in that Orwellian world, too.”

Drones are “recording everything that’s happening on what we consider our private property,” and government and private citizens alike, when equipped with technology, can listen in on “your conversations from miles away,” according to the Oklahoman newspaper and the Wall Street Journal.

Sotomayor’s comments are similar to those from Sen. Rand Paul, who has long fought for protection of privacy against the government’s use of drones.
