Cruz: Trump ‘could easily be unstoppable’ after Tuesday

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said if Donald Trump’s momentum carries through Super Tuesday, he may become “unstoppable.”

“The decision Tuesday, Super Tuesday, I believe is going to be the most important day of this entire election cycle,” Cruz said in Tennessee. “And Super Tuesday, one of two things is going to happen: Right now Donald Trump has enormous momentum. He’s won three of the first four states, if he continues with that momentum and powers through and wins everywhere on Super Tuesday, he could easily be unstoppable. And I think that would be a grave mistake both for the Republican Party and for the country.”

Cruz continued to argue that no one, including Trump, knows how the reality television star would govern as president.

“The other thing that could happen, I hope and believe that Super Tuesday is going to be a very, very good night for us,” Cruz said. “Our campaign, we’re very strong in my home state of Texas. We are running neck-and-neck with Donald in states all throughout Super Tuesday, all throughout the South. And I hope and believe we’re going to have a very strong night on Super Tuesday, if that’s the case, if we come out of Super Tuesday with having a significant chunk of delegates, I think this race effectively becomes a two-person race. And in a two-person race we beat Donald by 16 points, 56-40, but we got to get to a two-person race. His advantage right now, what Donald wants is the opposition to him fractured.”

Cruz also poked fun at Trump’s haircut in response to questions from the moderator of his campaign event, Eric Metaxas.

“There are some things that are really just too big to uncover,” Cruz said, in response to whether he would investigate Trump’s hair. “But I will confess standing next to him you do feel an incredible urge just to reach over and like ruffle his hair.”

Cruz has gone all-in on the Super Tuesday nominating contests, and the future of his presidential bid may hang in the balance of his performance.
