Hilfiger hosts multiple sclerosis fashion show

All-American fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger walked the orange carpet — which was laid out for his charity fashion show fundraiser Fashion’s Fight Against MS — at the Washington Club in Dupont on Tuesday night.

About 200 people showed up to support the event, but “confirmed notables” Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis and Washington Capitals and Wizards owner Ted Leonsis were no-shows. Hilfiger told us his sister Susie has suffered with multiple sclerosis for several years, which is why he decided to use his fashion fame as a platform to bring awareness to the disease.

“We’ve raised a lot of money and are anxiously awaiting for a cure,” he said.

Because D.C. is desperately trying to break into the fashion scene, we asked the designer who he thinks is helping us get there.

“I think Barack [Obama] is a very well-dressed politician for sure but I think Michelle [Obama] probably takes the cake. Michelle has great fashion sense. She’s casual and cool and I think that she knows how to turn it up — and I like the fact that she supports American designers,” he said.

So, which politician or power player is holding us back?

Hilfiger gave us a very bipartisan answer: “I don’t know any.”
