Vice President Biden isn’t the only one who gets revved up about riding the rails. On Saturday, Gladys Knight is lending her talents to Amtrak and appearing at Union Station as part of “National Train Day,” an annual event celebrating rail transit. (She did sing “Midnight Train to Georgia” after all.) Knight will “kick off” the daytime event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the station. Event spokespeople are staying mum about how many songs the Empress of Soul might sing. Knight, as part of her gig as the official spokeswoman of National Train Day, also performed in concert Thursday night in New York City before taking the train to D.C.
This year’s National Train Day also marks Amtrak’s 40th anniversary.
