Kraft recalls cheese slices due to choking hazard

That grilled cheese you are about to make may be a safety hazard.

Kraft Heinz is voluntarily recalling 36,000 cases of Kraft individually wrapped cheese singles.

It is possible when you peel off the plastic film surrounding the cheese single that a thin strip of plastic remains. If the film sticks to the slice and isn’t removed then it could cause a choking hazard, the company warned on Saturday.

So far there have been three reports of consumers choking but Kraft doesn’t say whether anyone was seriously injured. The company has received 10 complaints in all on the cheese slices.

Kraft noted that only three- and four-pound boxes with expiration dates at the end of December to the beginning of January are affected. About 36,000 cases of the recalled product were shipped across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman, Kraft added.

Kraft warns that consumers who bought the affected product not eat it. The company apologized for the problem.

Kraft told the Washington Examiner there have been no reports of serious injuries or deaths regarding the recalled product.

This is the second big recall for the food company this year. In March, Kraft recalled more than 240,000 boxes of Mac & Cheese dinners because they could contain pieces of metal, according to a report from CNBC.
