Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is firing back at New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio with a new radio ad slamming the Democrat’s “socialist policies.”
The 60-second ad, first reported by the New York Times, plays a clip of de Blasio calling Cruz “out of touch” before the ad rebuts the mayor.
“He’s got a lot of nerve. De Blasio’s socialist policies are tearing this city apart,” a narrator says in the ad. “Murders up nearly 10 percent. He treats cops like criminals and criminals like freedom fighters. De Blasio made New York a sanctuary city, rolling out the red carpet for illegals. And de Blasio ended stop and frisk even where terror suspects are known to congregate.”
The mayor also recently cautioned Cruz to “be careful” when discussing Democrats’ scandals, in an interview that aired on CNN. Cruz’s radio ad offers a response suggesting that a Cruz administration’s Justice Department would hold de Blasio’s feet to the fire.
“Now he’s meddling in the Republican primary campaigning against Cruz because when Cruz is president de Blasio’s done,” a narrator says in the ad. “No more criminal coddling, soft-on-terror policies. No more sanctuary cities. And Cruz will instruct the Justice Department to hold corrupt politicians accountable. Maybe that’s why de Blasio fears Ted Cruz. Send de Blasio a message: vote Cruz for president.”
Cruz is campaigning in Pennsylvania and New York on Wednesday.
