Syrian strongman Bashar Assad has violated last year’s chemical weapons pact by using chlorine gas in the civil war raging in that country, Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday.
Kerry testified Thursday in front of the House Foreign Affairs Committee regarding the situation in Syria and the American response to the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. His remarks were reported by Agence France-Presse and the Daily Beast.
Earlier this year, Syrian rebels had charged Assad with using chlorine gas. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said preliminary evidence showed the accusation was likely true.
