Fox News’ Shannon Bream talks hard work and hairspray

Before she was Fox News Channel’s Supreme Court reporter Shannon Bream, 40, was a starving college student just like the rest of us.

In a profile in this month’s Northern Virginia magazine, the Washington-based journalist talks about her transition from Liberty University undergrad to Capitol Hill intern to beauty queen (twice!) to corporate lawyer to television journalist, all while sharing a few fashion and beauty tips. (Hairspray is her secret weapon).

Speaking of hair, it was the gentleman who cut Bream’s hair who first suggested she get involved in beauty pageants as a way to finance college. Bream went on to become both a Miss Virginia, where she attended undergrad, and a Miss Florida, where she attended law school. After practicing law for a few years, she segued into journalism, a move that brought her to Washington. It was a chance meeting with Brit Hume that got Bream connected with Fox News. “He was such a gentleman,” she told the magazine. “I left the room and he had a conversation with my husband and he found out that I had a law degree and had interned on the Hill.”

Now almost four years into her gig at Fox, she is smitten with in the Washington area. She loves Chef Geoff’s in Tyson’s and getting her hair done at Serenity Salon on Wisconsin Avenue. She’s also a big fan of bargains. “I have gone to White House dinners in a dress that I have bought at Loehmann’s,” she admits.

She also discusses the broad spectrum of friends she’s made in D.C. “In Washington, there is a way to have disagreements and debates, which is so healthy, but a way to be friends at the end of the day, which I believe is the essence of America,” she said.
