Hey, DC: We’re stylish!

Is DC finally living down its reputation as a town of pantsuits and stickpins? Seems that way, judging from the fashionistas we caught up with this weekend. Aerin Lauder, New York socialite and creative director for Estée Lauder, called the outfits she’d seen so far “elegant” and “sophisticated.”

Designer Tory Burch echoed the claim. She called the crowd “understated” yet “elegant.”

“So far, so good,” said Ozwald Boateng, creative director for Givenchy (who has dressed Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Jamie Foxx and Will Smith), as he surveyed the crowd at the French ambassador’s residence.

But our favorite answer came from Diane von Furstenberg. When we informed her of DC’s stodgy reputation, she replied, “Maybe I should come here more often.”
