Vanity Fair talks up photo of Obama ex to sell magazines

Want to see a photo of President Obama with his ex-girlfriend? Tough cookies, online reader. In its zillion-words long story on the president’s old romances, Vanity Fair gives online readers this tease: “To see a picture of Obama and former girlfriend Genevieve Cook, pick up a copy of the June issue.” Way to keep print alive, Vanity Fair!

The article itself doesn’t offer much spice. His liaison with gal pal Alex McNear was described thusly: “By her account, the passion was as much about ideas and words as about their romance.”

Indeed, their letters discussed topics like T.S. Eliot’s poem “The Waste Land” and how Eliot’s philosophy compared to Yeats. Hot. And Cooke’s journal entry from her time dating Obama described him sitting on her bed, fully clothed, and arguments over “a suddenly felt irritation at doing the breakfast dishes.”

But if you want to see the photo, buy the magazine.
