Kirk Cameron knows his demographic. The “Growing Pains” star, who’s dipping his toe into documentary filmmaking, made this ’80s film reference when discussing his movie “Monumental,” which goes back and traces the escape route of the Pilgrims from the old world to the founding of the United States in the new one.

“If only I could go back and talk to the men and women who made this country, they could look at what we’re doing and say here’s what you’re doing wrong and here’s how you fix it,” Cameron said. “I wish my name was Marty McFly and I had a DeLorean and I could just go back and talk with them, learn from them.”

This year’s conference was a first for the actor, who told us that he had yet to get starstruck. “It would be great to see the presidential candidates here, I’d love to say hello to them,” Cameron said. “I have a lot of respect for anyone who will run for the presidency and put their views out on the line and have that much courage, that’s worthy of anybody’s respect and I’m hoping to get them to see this film.”

The only problem? The film’s screening was canceled because the movie wasn’t done yet. Cameron told Yeas & Nays he expected it to be finished soon. “Probably in the next couple weeks,” he said.
