Why Reagan National workers will fast before Thanksgiving

Nearly 300 Reagan National Airport workers will pledge to fast for 24 hours Tuesday and Wednesday while servicing Thanksgiving travelers in order to bring attention to poor working conditions and low wages.

The D.C.-area airline-contracted workers will join thousands of workers in major U.S. cities protesting poverty wages and alleged illegal treatment by their employers, according to Service Employees International Union advisory.

Contracted employees, including baggage handlers, wheelchair attendants, fuelers and security officers will take part in the nationally organized event. Workers in seven cities will additionally go on strike.
