Clinton campaign woos Senate Democrats

Two top staffers for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign spoke to Senate Democrats in a private lunch Tuesday.

Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta and national policy director Amanda Renteria gave a presentation to Democratic senators in a room just across the hall from the Senate chamber.

“John and Amanda came to our caucus to introduce us in a very broad, quick fashion to Secretary Clinton’s campaign for president of the United States,” Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said after the lunch. “They were very, very informative to us. I appreciate their coming there. And we look forward to a number of other opportunities to be able to show the profile we have for the next president of the United States.”

Podesta is a former top adviser to President Obama and founder of the progressive think tank Center for American Progress. Renteria is the former chief of staff for Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., Reid noted

“John Podesta has been everybody’s chief of staff,” Reid said. “It has worked out.”

Clinton has been reaching out to Democrats in both the House and Senate, focusing attention on liberals who may be inclined to wait for a more progressive Democratic presidential candidate.
