Sightings: Caps celebrate win at Matchbox, Ovi leaves town

The Washington Capitals were spotted out Sunday night celebrating their win against the Chicago Blackhawks and their exhibition schedule coming to a close.

Players including Alex Ovechkin, Mike Green, Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Semin sported dapper coats and ties and headed over to the Matchbox in Chinatown where they downed the restaurant’s trademark 3.6.9 miniburgers and pizzas. We hear the outing was led by Jeff Halpern, who has been charged with bringing the team closer together.

Unfortunately for Ovechkin, he had to skip a scheduled event Monday at Madame Tussauds (they were unveiling a wax figure of his likeness) upon hearing of the death of a close relative back in Russia. The team spokesman Sergey Kocharov told the Associated Press that the Capitals are hopeful that Ovi would be back from Moscow in time for Saturday’s regular season opener against the Carolina Hurricanes.
