Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City, is reportedly weighing a third party presidential bid amid Hillary Clinton’s latest round of stumbles and Donald Trump’s rise.
Bloomberg is willing to pour $1 billion of his personal fortune into a Democratic primary bid, the New York Times reported Saturday.
He has already commissioned a poll to test his level of support in match-ups against Clinton and Republican front-runner Trump.
But the billionaire media mogul has now tapped a consultant to explore ways to get on ballots in primary states and is reportedly planning to launch another poll after the New Hampshire primary early next month.
Bloomberg’s campaign plan will involve a blitz of television advertising intended to characterize him as a “problem-solver,” the report said.
The former mayor will make a decision by early March, after the first wave of primaries have finished.
