Huckabee ignites fiery Iowa campaign blitz

Republican presidential contender and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is bringing a message of fire and brimstone for Washington, as he steps up campaigning in Iowa in the final month before the caucuses and this week’s debate.

“The people of Iowa are not for sale, and I’m running for president to burn down the corrupt Washington political machine and put Americans first,” Huckabee said Monday.

Huckabee made the announcement ahead of launching an intense series of “The Huck Stops Here” campaign stops in the state Jan. 11-13 before beginning a series of stops in South Carolina in the second half of the week in the leadup to Thursday’s GOP debate.

For Iowa, the events begin phase two of his strategy to win the caucuses, after completing a visit to each county in the state referred to as the “Full Grassley,” named after Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who created the tradition of traversing the state each year. He completed the Full Grassley in just under eight months, starting in early May after announcing his presidential bid, according to his campaign website.

“Step one was the ‘Full Grassley,’ step two is 150 Iowa events this final month, and step three is victory on caucus night,” Huckabee says.

The Huck Stops Here events will focus on protecting Social Security, right-to-life issues and a “Manufacturing Jobs for Iowa Townhall.”
