The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation on Tuesday named Michael Barone, senior political analyst for the Washington Examiner, a 2010 recipient of its Bradley Prize for outstanding achievement.
The foundation presents its highest award, which includes a $250,000 cash prize, to scholars and citizens who promote democratic capitalism, liberal democracy and a vigorous defense of American ideas and institutions.
“All this is second nature to Michael because he loves this country and what it stands for,” said Stephen G. Smith, editor of the Washington Examiner.
Barone is a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and was nominated for the award by a national panel of more than 100 prominent individuals involved in academia, public-policy research, journalism, civic affairs and the arts.
The Bradley Foundation will honor Barone — as well as fellow Bradley Prize recipients Wall Street Journal editorial page editor Paul A. Gigot, law professor Bradley A. Smith and economics professor John B. Taylor — at a ceremony later this year at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
