Christie gets scrappy with Google Bush ad

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has taken a page from Sen. Rand Paul’s playbook to try to siphon support from Jeb Bush.

Christie’s political committee Leadership Matters for America has bought a Google ad for the term “Jeb Bush PAC,” a search on the site showed.

That strategy has been used previously by Paul, another likely Republican candidate for president, who in December purchased an ad for the search “Jeb Bush” to promote his own political committee.

The tack has its limits, however: Once the Google algorithm deems an ad irrelevant to a search term, the ad appears less often.

But Christie might need to lean on scrappy Internet tactics to compete for money with Bush, who is already crisscrossing the country to raise money for his likely campaign for president. Bush is expected to post a commanding fundraising total for the first quarter and has been locking up many of Christie’s former supporters, according to reports.
