Anti-bullying event scheduled for WHCD weekend

It won’t be all play for the stars coming to D.C. to attend the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner this weekend. There’s a little advocacy work on the table too — on the hot topic of bullying.

The Creative Coalition is joining WWE to announce a new anti-bullying alliance on Friday. The alliance is to be called “Be a STAR,” with STAR standing for “show tolerance and respect,” and will bring together education and community service groups, including the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the Ad Council, Island Def Jam Music Group and the Close Up Foundation.

The red carpet will be rolled out for Friday’s event at the Washington Club, where the new organization will introduce an anti-bullying “teacher’s aide” to be distributed free to the nation’s schools. Names associated with the event include Jeremy Piven, Michelle Trachtenberg, Jason Biggs, Omar Epps, Marlon Wayans and former Sen. Bob Dole, among many others.
