Rachel Dolezal resigns as Spokane NAACP president

Rachel Dolezal, the president of the NAACP chapter in Spokane, Wash., who passed herself off as black for years, has stepped down.

Dolezal’s parents revealed last week she is lying about being black. In a Facebook post Monday, Dolezal said she remains “committed to empowering marginalized voices,” but that she is stepping down as president.

“This is not me quitting; this is a continuum,” she wrote.

Dolezal again refused to answer questions about her race or add any clarifying remarks, but hinted that there may be more to tell. “I have waited in deference while others expressed their feelings, beliefs, confusions and even conclusions — absent the full story,” she wrote.

Vice President Naima Quarles-Burnley will assume presidential duties, the post said.
