Grover Norquist celebrates wins with balloons, Beck blackboard

Election night celebrations trickled over into Wednesday morning at the offices of Americans for Tax Reform as the group held its weekly Wednesday meeting.

The organization’s head, Grover Norquist, decided a balloon drop would be the best way to celebrate the 234 Republican House members who signed a pledge to not raise taxes. But, being responsible, he decided to hold off the festivities until the end of the meeting of 194 conservatives.

“I thought, ‘Oh great, everybody would be throwing balloons at each other for the next 45 minutes of the meeting,’ so we just did the balloon drop at the end of the meeting and then everybody was throwing balloons at each other.”

Another fun surprise? The group used a blackboard donated by Glenn Beck to tally election results. (Yeas & Nays previously reported that Beck’s blackboard had been stuffed into a closet).

“It was out and for all to see on election night with his lovely signature,” Norquist said. “It was what we were doing our vote counts on.”
