Baltimore schedules new trials for six Freddie Gray officers

The six Baltimore police officers involved in the death of Freddie Gray have been scheduled to go trial starting in May.

A spokesperson for the Baltimore court system announced late Tuesday the six law enforcement officers will begin their individual trials in three months, and the final one will conclude in the fall.

Officer Edward Nero will stand trial May 10, followed by Officer Caesar Goodson on June 6. Lt. Brian Rice will stand trial July 5, Officer Garrett Miller on July 27, Officer William Porter on Sept. 6 and finally Sgt. Alicia White on Oct. 13.

All six were charged with assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment for alleged actions against Gray, which resulted in his death while in police custody last April.

Goodson, White, Porter and Rice additionally face a manslaughter charge. Goodson also faces a charge for second-degree murder.

Porter’s first trial ended in a hung jury last December. The new trials were requested after lawyers fought against Porter’s having to testify against his colleagues.
