Carson: No refugees in the U.S., help Jordan

In the midst of Ben Carson and his wife’s trip to Jordan this weekend, the Republican presidential candidate outlined the sketches of a policy on Syrian refugees, as well as his thoughts on what the U.S.’s path ahead in the region should be.

“Bringing 25K refugees to U.S. doesn’t solve this crisis. Jordan already houses 1.4M refugees. We must do more. They need & deserve our help,” Carson tweeted Saturday.

“Amman, Jordan today — I saw pain on the faces of mothers & children,” he added.

“The United States must do more,” Carson said in his full statement. “We can do our part to help this crisis without bringing 10-25,000 refugees to the United States,” not going into further detail.

“In the coming days I will offer what I believe are real solutions to the problems created in part by the Obama-Clinton Administration’s failed policies,” he said. “Jordan already houses 1.4 million refugees. Jordan needs and deserves our logistical help and financial support.”

Carson has dipped in opinion polls in recent weeks, with commentators ascribing his slide to a mixture of questions about his past claims about his early years, as well as a perceived shallow understanding of foreign policy matters. Carson’s trip to Jordan will likely be cast as an attempt to enhance his foreign policy credentials.

He currently ranks fourth in The Examiner’s power rankings.
