The special prosecutor in the criminal case against Rick Perry is not a fan of the Texas governor’s actions.
Perry is seeking “special favors” by asking to skip a pre-trial hearing, according to special prosecutor Michael McCrum.
“I’ve never seen a defendant make such a mockery of our system of justice,” McCrum said, pointing to Perry’s rally at the courthouse when he was booked, according to the San Antonio News Press.
Perry is “not entitled” to such “special favors,” McCrum said.
The Republican, who has been governor since 2000, has been indicted on two felony counts accusing him of abusing his veto power.
McCrum, a formal federal prosecutor, was named special prosecutor by San Antonio Senior Judge Bert Richardson, who is presiding over the case. McCrum also named a second lawyer to help him with the case, Austin lawyer David Gonzalez.
Perry, who is mulling a 2016 presidential run, has actively suggested his indictment was a political move.
Against the GOP field, Perry is sixth, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
