Trump: ‘We’re going to be Greece on steroids’

Donald Trump expressed concern for the rising national debt Thursday, telling supporters in Las Vegas that the U.S. could become “Greece on steroids.”

“We’re in a big fat beautiful bubble right now and I predicted the last couple of bursts,” the Republican presidential front-runner said to a crowd of roughly 5,000 during a rally at the Treasure Island Hotel.

“And I’m telling you we need to get our act together or we’re going to be Greece on steroids,” he added.

The billionaire businessman, who ranks first in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings, also took credit for the House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s decision Thursday to withdraw from the race for speaker of the House.

“You know, McCarthy is out. They’re giving me a lot of credit for that because I said we need tough, smart leadership,” Trump said.

He added, “Kevin is a nice guy, but I just hope they now find those qualities in somebody that can negotiate and can do something.”

Trump currently leads the GOP field with 23.2 percent support among Republican voters, according to the latest RealClearPolitics polling average.
