Afternoon Links: The Northern Border, Pay Toilets, and the Implosion of the Proud Boys

Learn about the border… The northern border, that is! I spent at least an hour checking out all the neat things about the U.S.-Canada border on this fantastic site last night. Be forewarned, it is addictive!

Bring back pay toilets! While I’m not one who has qualms about public bathrooms, I do appreciate a good one. And I’m willing to pay for it. But where did all the pay toilets go? Why is it a thing in Europe but not here? Read and learn.

Stupid lawsuit against Trump fails, predictably. A wine bar in downtown Washington, D.C., sued President Trump and his family business (the ethical concerns about its ability to do business with the federal government are legit), and lost. The bar argued that the stature of President Trump gave the Trump Hotel a competitive advantage in business lunches. A U.S. District Court judge ruled that the argument wasn’t “a legally redressable wrong.” The better case is whether a president’s family should be doing business with the feds, not whether his notoriety hurts business.

Meanwhile, the Proud Boys seems to be self-imploding. As the Daily Beast’s Will Sommer reports. And they have some weird new rules.

The hero America needs. A man in Connecticut is fighting a ticket he got for distracted driving. Why? The police contend he was using his phone while driving. He argues he was eating a McDonald’s hash brown, and has the records to prove it.

Speaking of distractions… A wedding photographer was arrested in Texas for dereliction of duty, because she stopped working to have sex with a guest of the wedding and later urinated on a tree, yelling crazy things as she was arrested. While there might not be the perfect wedding photos of the big day, there silver lining is the unbeatable perfect wedding story.

Giving Tuesday. Since today is #GivingTuesday, and there are lots of great causes and institutions to support, may I suggest a subscription or gift to Reason magazine? They’re great people who produce a world-class magazine, website, and videos. A former TWS employee, Katherine Mangu-Ward, is their esteemed editor. So do consider enriching yourself with their lively content.

Geraldo, unplugged. The Fox News personality went on a viral rant about the caravan last night, complaining that the migrants are being treated like “zombies from the Walking Dead.” It’s well worth your time.

Don’t buy Iraqi dinars. Please, just don’t. (Disclosure: I am not a financial planner and do your own research but this sure looks like a really bad idea.)
