Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal took a jab at GOP front-runner Donald Trump in the opening round of CNN’s debate among the second tier presidential candidates, by saying Trump is a “narcissist who only believes in himself,” and saying Trump isn’t a real Republican.
“Let’s stop treating Donald Trump like a Republican candidate,” Jindal said. “If he were really a conservative and 30 points ahead, I would endorse him.”
Jindal was asked about Trump by CNN host Jake Tapper, who then asked former Sen. Rick Santorum whether Jindal should have attacked Trump. After a few more questions about Trump, former New York Gov. George Pataki complained that the first four questions in the “junior” debate were about Trump.
Jindal and the others failed to crack the top 11 Republican candidates in the 2016 race, which means they did not share the stage with The Donald.
Jindal, who is 11th in the Washington Examiner‘s updated power rankings, has begun taking shots at Trump as he struggles to gain traction in national polls. While Jindal met the polling threshold necessary to make the debate stage, he received the support of 0.5 percent of those surveyed in Real Clear Politics’ average of polls.
