President Obama bemoaned the loss of life Saturday in Friday’s Planned Parenthood clinic shooting in Colorado, making evident his increased frustration at the continued stalling of his legislative agenda on firearms.
“This is not normal. We can’t let it become normal,” Obama said in a statement. “If we truly care about this … then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period.”
“The last thing Americans should have to do, over the holidays or any day, is comfort the families of people killed by gun violence,” Obama said.
Three people were killed, including one police officer, after a shooting incident at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs Friday. The slain officer was Garrett Swasey, 44, who worked for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs police force. The suspected gunman was taken alive into custody.
“May God bless Officer Garrett Swasey and the Americans he tried to save,” Obama said.
