A new poll conducted by an anti-Trump organization puts Sen. Marco Rubio within five points of Republican Party front-runner Donald Trump among Florida voters.
The survey, commissioned by Our Principles PAC found 35 percent of Sunshine State voters sided with Trump while 30 percent backed the junior senator, according to the Terrance Group, a GOP firm.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz finished third with 16 percent of support and Ohio Gov. John Katich had 9 percent. Ben Carson, who ended his campaign late Friday, took 5 percent. Six percent were undecided, according to the poll, conducted Feb. 29 – March 2.
Other polls have suggested a larger lead by Trump, who has a residence in the West Palm Beach area. Trump has maintained an 18 point advantage over Rubio, according to the cumulative average by RealClearPolitics.
The poll, released exclusively to a Florida news organization, did not clarify whether it surveyed only Republicans, independents or the whole population. A summary of the results did not include details of how questions were asked, the poll’s demographics, which would clarify the integrity of the poll.
The PAC’s survey results may indicate new attacks by anti-Trump groups, including American Future Fund and Club for Growth, have resonated with voters.
Terrance Group surveyed 800 Florida residents and stated a 3.5 percent margin of error.
