Sasse fires at ‘fake tough guy’ Trump

Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., went after Donald Trump’s attacks on Heidi Cruz’s appearance and threats to spill the beans about her past Thursday.

In a pair of tweets, Sasse called Trump a “fake tough guy” while calling on all those with a sister, wife or daughter to “reconsider supporting this tiny little man.”

“This is sad, and everyone with a sister or wife or daughter or mom should reconsider supporting this tiny little man,” Sasse said of Trump’s tweet which featured a side-by-side comparison of Ted Cruz’s wife and Melania Trump, a former model.

“.@realDonaldTrump loves bullying women on twitter. But he’d never have the guts to talk like this abt a guy’s wife to his face #fakeToughGuy,” Sasse added.

The Nebraska senator has been a consistent critic of Trump’s throughout the primary season. A leading proponent of the #NeverTrump movement, Sasse has said that he will be “out” of the GOP if Trump becomes its standard-bearer, having campaigned earlier in the race on behalf of Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.

Cruz reportedly upped his response to Trump Wednesday over the attacks against his wife, telling reporters that the real estate tycoon is a “sniveling coward” and that he needs to “leave Heidi the hell alone.”
